Adult Child Maintenance

Once a child reaches the age of 18 years, normally parents no longer have a legal obligation to provide financial support.

However, there are well-recognised exceptions to this general rule including where a child is pursuing a course of training or study or is suffering from a disability that limits or prevents them from participating in the ordinary paid workforce and earning an income.

In these circumstances, both parents of the child may have an ongoing obligation to assist in providing support for the child. If a dispute arises, we are on hand to provide advice and assistance in negotiating an agreement and/or representation in Court if necessary.
